What are your children reading? The reason I asked is because this week, May 12 through the 18th, is Children's Book Week. Did you know that? To be honest with you, it totally skipped my mind. But now that I realize it, I am bringing it forward to the front of the line. We still have 4 more days of this event so you and your readers can still participate.
How many books have the kids read this week? What books did they read? Did they read held hand books, or did they read their favorite stories on an electronic device? What type of books do your children prefer, short stories, chapter books or novels? Who is their favorite author and what is their favorite title? Do they have favorite characters? Where do their books come from?
Questions, questions, questions...I know, you might not feel like taking a quiz, but these are the questions that I think about when thinking about books for young readers and teens. Do you ask yourself these questions when purchasing books? Can you answer the above questions? How well do you know your reader?
Would you introduce them to new age appropriate books and new authors? The reason I ask is because new books are plentiful these days. New authors are always popping up and strutting their stuff. Take for instance author Winona Rasheed, who happens to be me. And I must say....I've been long gone out of the category of being called a new author; after all, I am the author of 11 children books now, two of which are novels for young adults. For a long time, I dabbled in short stories or short reads. But then one day, all of sudden and out of nowhere, I branched out and took wings, which carried me on over into novels. And you know what, I like it, so perhaps I will do more in that genre. After all, I just proved to myself that I am capable.
Okay, back to Children's Book Week... Are you ready to introduce your readers to some awesome books that they might not own or have read? Check out some of these titles by Winona Rasheed. The OMG Book Collection, which includes: OMG! Ragdoll Talez, OMG! Talez with Tails, OMG! More Readz for Me......These books are collections of short stories. Then there is Broken Voices, Bittersweet Dayz...books for young adults. Take a whimsical trip to Africa and follow Kumani in "A New Home for Her Cubs."....a book for middle grade readers.
Alright, so this blog might be a tad bit on the long side...sometimes I get carried away when I blog....that's because there is so much to say. But, I will end it here and save some information for another day. After all, Children's Book Week isn't over until Sunday. I have plenty of time to squeeze in my other books for this event.
